Description
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot, and 6% Merlot. Founded in 2005 by Robert Mondavi and two of his children, Tim and Marcia, Continuum is a winery located in the unofficial appellation of Pritchard Hill in Napa Valley. Although it was not until 2012 that the winery was entirely sourcing their fruit from the estate, they have always taken pride in obtaining grapes from some of the best vineyards in the valley. Pritchard Hill should be noted here because of how great, but under-the-radar it is. While not an officially recognized sub-appellation of Napa, this area has long produced excellent wine. In fact, vines have been planted in the vicinity of Pritchard Hill since the late 1880s. Two of Napa’s typically 7 recognized cult wineries are here: Bryant Family and Colgin as well as other nearby superb estates. This neighborhood is obviously in high demand. As one local vintner said to us, “these vineyards are Oakville with altitude!" This is their Proprietary Red blend and it is an absolute stunner! Vinification of Continuum takes place in a combination of conical-shaped oak vats, Sonoma Cast Stone, and Nomblot egg-shaped tanks with 10% of the wine being vinified in barrel. The wine is then aged in 85% new, French oak barrels for up to 20 months before bottling. Ripe, rich, and delicious this is world-class Napa red.
