Description
100% Garnacha. After discovering the potential of the various terroirs of the Sierra de Gredos (home to one of the highest peaks of mainland Spain), Daniel Ramos and his wife Pepi established themselves in the town of El Tiemblo. Daniel Ramos has been making wines there since 2010 with traditional winemaking techniques in the cellar so that they representing the specific terroirs and altitudes/expositions of each of his vineyards. We've said it before and we'll say it again, Sierra de Gredos is one of the most exciting wine regions in the whole world and the Garnacha's here is unlike what one would expect from this well-known grape. We absolutely adore this region and its producers. Daniel's Garnacha vines range from 50- to 100-year-old and are planted on decomposed granitic sand and/or slate schists, on beautiful steep slopes at around 800-950 meters of altitude with different sun expositions. El Altar is a single-vineyard Garnacha, from old vines planted on granitic sandy soils with large chunks of quartz, north-facing at 800 meters. Filled with red fruit and mountain herbs, this wine has freshness, drinkability but it is also completely balanced. A simply magical wine. Sierra de Gredos is a region to watch out for and Daniel is one of its leading lights. We can't recommend the wines enough.
