100% Cabernet Franc. This is the new wave of Super Tuscans. Ampeleia was born in 2002 from the collaboration and friendship between Elisabetta Foradori (Yes! That Elisabetta Foradori!), Thomas Widmann, and Giovanni Podini. The project aspires to represent the inherent diversity and huge potential of this particular area of Maremma, the "Colline Metallifere," which are the mineral-rich hills close to the coast. The estate is fully biodynamic with low intervention. This Cabernet Franc comes from a high altitude vineyard that is surrounded by chestnut trees, it is full of red and blue fruit, sage, and a slate minerality. Pure, fresh while also having a medium to full body weight. Ampeleia is one of the stars of the Tuscan coast, no surprise with Elisabetta at the helm, and at their best, the Ampeleia wines are among the most pure, transparent expressions of the Maremma coast that one will taste.
