100% Chenin Blanc. In May 2004, Céline and Benoit Blet took over the 8.5 hectare domaine of Bernard Coutel, who was retiring and had no family members to follow in his footsteps . Located in Oiron (about 20 miles south of Chinon) the domaine has been certified organic since 2010 and does some biodynamic practices. The domaine produces about 4,000 cases of mono-varietal cuvées which are the expression of the varietal in the terroir. Half of the domaine is planted in Chenin Blanc; the other half in Gamay and Cabernet Franc. Les Trois Poiriers is all Chenin Blanc on clay, sand, and silex done with as little intervention as possible in the cellar. This wine has elegant notes aromas of pear, apple and minerals and a beautifully silky palate with white fruit, herbal, citrus, spice and stone flavors with excellent length. Elegant is the key word for this very unique and delicious wine, certainly one of the best values in Chenin Blanc you’ll find anywhere. Even in popular regions like the Loire there are still magnificent producers hiding in plain sight. Try Les Terres Blanches and see what we see in them.
