100% Cabernet Franc. Domaine Mosse is a leading organic producer in the natural wine epicenter that is the Loire Valley. Started up by Agnès and René Mosse in 1999, the winery not only makes fine wines but their openness to people who want to learn about winemaking and their influence on the local winemaking culture should be praised more. Today, their sons Syvlestre and Joseph run the domaine, and basically, everything has stayed the same. Some biodynamic preparations are used on the vines and soil and with all the efforts put into vineyard work, it is equally important to them to vinify in a natural fashion. They are particularly attentive to minimizing manipulations and the use of sulfur while using no new oak. This Cabernet Franc comes from two specific parcels in Anjou, even though it is purposely declassified to Vin de France, with the vines between 30 to 50 years old. Aged in old oak barrels and never fined or filtered, this Cab Franc is earthy redcurrant and black raspberry with a distinct mineral character. Less a fruit bomb and more of a classic Cabernet Franc with its classic structure and herbal tinges. If you’re a fan of those flavors, or of Cabernet Franc, this wine is a must-try. It shows why the Mosse family is so highly coveted in certain circles.
