100% Barbera. The estate Anselma Giacomo was founded in the early twentieth century and since then has been steadfast in traditional winemaking. It is currently managed by Franco Anselma, and his wife Maria, who practice the same winemaking philosophies as Franco’s father practiced. This passion and knowledge for traditional winemaking maintain the richness of the earth as well as the richness of the wines. The Anselma family owns vineyards in the area of Serralunga d’Alba, one of the most prestigious territories in the Langhe where the soil is calcareous clay and where the mild climate creates stunning Nebbiolo’s and Barbera’s. This bottling is classic Barbera with a rich ruby color, a delicate fragrance, and black fruit on the palate. A characteristic Barbera in every sense of the word. As Barolo and Barbaresco prices start ascending to Burgundy prices it is important to find the wines and producers that are hiding in plain sight. These producers offer wines that are almost just as good as the most well-known producers, but at a fraction of the price. Franco and Maria Anselma are one such producer and we absolutely adore them.
