60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay. In 1851, young Charles Heidsieck founded his own Champagne house in Reims. He understood that the United States was an important emerging market, so he traversed America repeatedly north to south promoting his new brand. The stylish entrepreneur became known lovingly as “Champagne Charlie.” Charles Heidsieck is distinguished by the high proportion of reserve wines and their vineyard parcels coming from grand and premier cru villages. The Millésime 2008 is a blend of these vineyards while also being meticulously selected by the House, it is a wine replete with indulgence and the refinement. The Pinots offer strength and great structure whereas the Chardonnays are precise with a freshness that suggests slow ageing. Charles Heidsieck is the smallest of the Grandes Marques champagne Houses and that gives them an advantage in being more flexible to craft truly captivating wines. Champagnes that express place and soul.
